Beta Access Program

What We are Looking for

Our beta program helps us ensure that our customers are getting the best quality apps possible. We need regular feedback on new and existing features focusing on a number of key components:

1. Usability: Do the features do what you would expect? Are they intuitive?
2. Accuracy: Are their typos? Can the feature be better explained? Does it work as advertised?
3. Stability: Not just crashes, but every little thing, including loss of responsiveness (slow reaction).
4. Localization: Not just language, but culture and time zone aware.

We are looking for a wide range of talents. If you apply for our program, let us know your skills. Are you a heavy user? Are you new to the iPhone? Are you looking for something simple, or a dedicated GTD user. What languages are you fluent in (can you help translate the application or improve translations in your language)?

We only allow about 50 people in our program, so if you are not actively interested in testing the product and new features, please let us know so we can allow others to give us their feedback.

How to Join out Program?

If you have not contacted us already, or have not been invited, just follow the instructions below and submit all the information below with your request.

Step 1. Your UDID number for each device you wish to install the app on.

Apple has made it possible for us to distribute beta applications for our testers using the UDID (unique device identifier) serial for your iPhone or iPad device.

You must supply us with your devices UDID in order to install these "Ad-hoc" applications on your iPhone. We can not submit you to the program without it.

We only allow about 50 people in our program, so if you are not actively interested in testing the product and new features, please let us know so we can allow other to give us their feedback.

To find your iPhone's UDID, just plug it into your computer and wait until iTunes recognizes it. Select your phone from the Devices list in iTunes and click the "Summary" tab. To see your UDID, click on the word "serial number" beside the picture of the iPhone. You should see the word "identifer" and an alphanumeric string – this is your UDID.

To copy it, just press command + C on your Mac's keyboard (or control + C in Windows). Now comes the hard part: getting on a developer's beta testing list.

Submit the device type (iPhone 5, iPad 2, etc.) with the appropriate UDIDs in your request.

Step 2. Your skills and contribution.

Let us know what your skill set is. Are you good with design and color? Are you a power or casual user (we need both)! Are you fluent in a language besides english? We need translators to test this product in their own language to make sure the text is accurate snf fits nicely on their device.

Step 3. Send us your information

Use the Contact Us link for beta testers, or if you received an invitation in an email just reply to that email with your information. You should hear a response within a few days.

How to install a beta build

This tutorial should give you all the necessary information to install the Alloy Tasks beta client on your iphone device. These builds are known as ad hoc and are created by developers to distribute apps outside of the iTunes App Store, generally used for beta testing and or for a review.

Instructions for Mac OS X

If you receive an .ipa file:

1. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to your computer.
2. Double-click on the .ipa file. This will open iTunes and add the app to your collection.
3. Sync your applications.

The app should appear in your device after the sync is complete.

If you receive two files (or a zip file containing them):

1. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to your computer.
2. Open iTunes if it didn’t open automatically.
3. Drag both files to the iTunes icon in the dock.
4. Sync your applications.

The app should appear in your device after the sync is complete.

Instructions for Windows

If you receive an .ipa file:

1. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to your computer.
2. Double-click on the .ipa file. This will open iTunes and add the app to your collection.
3. Sync your applications.

If you receive a zip file with a file with ".mobileprovision" extension and a folder containing the app:

Do not open the app folder or Windows might tamper with its contents.

1. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to your computer
2. Open iTunes if it didn’t open automatically
3. Locate your device in iTunes and go to the Applications tab
4. Drag the ".mobileprovision" file to the Applications tab along with the app folder
5. Sync your applications

The app should appear in your device after sync is complete.

If you get an error message similar to "The application [app name] was not installed on the [device model] [device name] because its resources have been modified.", extract the contents of the zip file again and make sure you do not open the app folder before dragging it to iTunes.

The above procedure is known to fail in some scenarios. If you are unable to install the app after a couple of retries, try the advanced instructions below.

Advanced instructions for Windows

1. Download and install the iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU) for Windows from Apple ( http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/ ).

Warning: The iPhone Configuration Utility might already be installed. If it is, simply repair the installation to upgrade to the latest version.

2. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to your computer.

3. Exit out of iTunes if it is open before launching iPCU.

4. Launch iPCU from Start > All programs > iPhone Configuration Utility > iPhone Configuration Utility or from C:\Program Files\iPhone Configuration Utility\iPCU. You should see your device appear in the Devices section on the left side of the window.

5. Add the provisioning profile (mobile provision) to the iPCU Library: Click on Provisioning Profiles, then drag the .mobileprovision file into the Provisioning Profiles pane.

6. Add the application to the iPCU Library: Click on Applications, then drag the app into the Applications Pane. On Windows, the app will be a folder, named something like YourAppName.app.

7. Access your device: Click on your device in the list of devices on the left. You should see five tabs appear in the main window: Summary, Configuration Profiles, Provisioning Profiles, Applications, and Console.

8. Install the Provisioning Profile: Click on the Provisioning Profiles tab of your device. You should see your Ad Hoc Provisioning Profile in the list of profiles. In the Install column you should see either a button that says Install or a button that says Remove (if you've installed this profile previously).

9. Install the app: Click on your devices Applications tab. You should see your app in the list of applications. In the Install column you should see either a button that says Install or a button that says Uninstall (if you've already installed the app).
